Science and education

It is our goal that Bonn will be the benchmark for others in every respect when it comes to kindergartens and day care facilities, schools and OGS places. We want to develop Bonn into an international competence centre for cyber security. Bonn should become the "Davos" in the field of cyber security. In addition, we want to continue to create the best possible conditions for the University of Bonn to remain a flagship of the city of Bonn as a university of excellence and international research location.

We want to achieve this goal with the following measures:

We will continue the expansion of day-care centres and open all-day facilities in line with demand in order to guarantee all children an equal opportunity entry into the education system and to enable parents to combine work and family life.

We advocate greater time flexibility in childcare options and the legal and actual review of whether -for example - a 24-hour kindergarten can be set up as part of a pilot project. We have the long-term goal of creating a full-time job in school social work at every municipal school. Social workers are an important bridge between school and home and can be important contact points, especially for pupils in precarious situations.

We continue to work towards ensuring that healthy food, primarily from regional cultivation, is served in schools. This is to be intensified by extending the model project for free school breakfasts to all primary and special schools in Bonn, as well as better nutritional education within the framework of project weeks and visits by external consultants.

We will reduce the backlog of school renovation projects and make our schools fit for future-oriented teaching. We will provide the necessary financial resources. In general, any building projects in schools and kindergartens will be given priority by the municipal department for facility management.

We will speed up project planning with the City of Bonn by pooling competencies so that the federal funds of the Digitization Pact reach the pupils more quickly. As a first step, we are committed to the availability and use of WLAN in every classroom of a municipal school. Internet access is the basic prerequisite for digital learning. To this end, we want to provide modern digital teaching facilities, work to ensure that this digital infrastructure functions sustainably, and offer educators more training and continuing education in the use of digital media. The maintenance of digital media and the corresponding connections is often the responsibility of a teacher in the school. However, teachers should be able to concentrate on their pedagogical work. In the interface between the education authority and the municipal department for facility management, we create a rapid IT intervention group that can promptly solve problems with Internet connections and end devices at a school.

Lifelong learning is important for us. We are committed to providing educational opportunities close to home for everyone from pre-school children to senior citizens in order to enable participation in society up to an advanced age.

We will develop Bonn as a location for science, for example by providing a "fast lane" for the University of Bonn when applying for building extensions. Projects of the University of Bonn enjoy high priority. We therefore want scientific institutions in the city to have a direct contact point for their concerns and therefore advocate strengthening the staff unit.

We will further develop Bonn as a centre for cyber security by supporting corresponding companies, organisations and institutions in Bonn.

We support the establishment of a branch of the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences in Bad Godesberg, if possible, at the “kurfürstlichen Zeile”.

In order to ensure that our University of Excellence and Bonn as a location for research and science in general have the best possible conditions for their development, the international aspects of Bonn should be more strongly emphasized and promoted.
