Transportation and mobility

27.08.2020

Our aim is to achieve a sustainable reduction in traffic emissions in the city of Bonn, to reduce car traffic in the inner-city area, to increase the number of charging stations for e-cars and to expand the bicycle infrastructure. For us, motorized vehicle traffic is and will remain an important mode of transport whose infrastructure also needs to be improved and expanded.

We want to achieve this goal with the following measures:

In order to strengthen the city as a place to live and work, we support the plans for the realization of a western tramway leading from the city centre via Endenicher Straße and the Hermann-Wandersleb-Ring to the Hardtberg. It is to be examined how individual commuter traffic to the city centre can be reduced through P&R parking spaces and how the connection to the districts Lengsdorf, Ückesdorf and Röttgen can be guaranteed.

We support partnerships of all forms of mobility, since many citizens will continue to depend on motorised private transport in the future. We are striving for a modal split of 25 percent motorised individual transport and 75 percent environmental transport (cycling, public transport, walking).

We support bicycle traffic over the North Bridge and the construction of a new pedestrian and cycle bridge between Kennedy Bridge and Adenauer Bridge.

We are committed to greater reliability, better connections, shorter intervals, longer operating times and increased capacities for buses and trains. It is clear to us that more frequent services will only be possible once the ordered light rail vehicles and trams are running, i.e. not before 2023. We expect more frequent services in particular on the main line of the light rail system from Bonn central station to Olof-Palme-Allee and on line 66. We are committed to improving the connection of the Bonner Bogen to the public transport system. We advocate extending the operating times to the whole day on lines 16 and 18, even if the section of line 18 that has been single-track up to now has to be extended to double-track.

For us, the attractiveness of public transport also includes the fact that buses and trains are fully air-conditioned, equipped with WLAN and in good and clean condition. Bus- and tram stops should be sufficiently cover and offer protection from the weather.

We are committed to the safety of cyclists on Bonn's roads. For this purpose, we will implement a structural separation of cycle paths and lanes where the width of the road permits. If a structural separation is not possible, we will advocate the clear marking of cycle lanes on the road so that all road users can enjoy a safe and conflict-free flow of traffic. In the course of this, we are committed to removing any damage to cycle paths as well as any obstructions that impede the cycle paths as well as to providing more bicycle parking spaces.

We will establish a seamless cycle network with continuous north-south and east-west connections and build more commuter and fast cycle routes. This applies in particular to paths along the Rhine. The cycle paths must also provide a better connection between Bonn and the Rhine-Sieg district. In our view, improved construction site management must also take greater account of the interests of cyclists.

We will further improve the already well-established bicycle rental system and make it even more attractive by networking it with the surrounding districts. For us, attractiveness also includes pedelecs and cargo bikes. We will make sure that these are sufficiently secured against misuse, just like the existing range of rental bicycles.

Further express bus lines, for example between Bonn and Meckenheim, will be created to better connect residential and workplace locations between the region and Bonn. In the future, we are also striving to extend the 61/62 line to Friesdorf and the 16/63 line to Mehlem, and are working towards the planning of further bus stops.

We influence the planning of stops and take into account not only traffic safety but also the aspect of security. Specifically, we prefer bright and well-frequented locations and a modern, open and well-lit design of bus- and tram stops.

We will work to ensure that more IC and ICE trains stop in Bonn.

Pedestrians must not be forgotten as road users. We need well-maintained footpaths and must rely on safer crossings, whether crosswalks, traffic light crossings, railway crossings or underpasses and footbridges. It goes without saying that attention must also be paid to barrier-free access to enable strollers, walkers and wheelchairs to move easily, especially when overcoming differences in levels.

Provided that the relief of road traffic has been proven and the state of NRW and, if possible, the federal government contribute to the construction costs, we will support the construction of a cableway. The route of the cableway must take into account the entire region, include P&R parking spaces at suitable stops and be connected to the wider local transport network.
